A Bride Shares How COVID19 Affected Her Wedding Day

The day we marry our partners is a day that comes with a lot of dreaming, planning, and excitement to finally call the one we love ours forever. With the pandemic shutting down all large events, unfortunately, many of our bride’s weddings have been effected. While it was not ideal to have to change her wedding plans around amidst Covid-19, real bride Dayna did not let the situation at hand take away the magic of her wedding day. Keep reading for a story that I hope provides a bit of positivity, hope, and reassurance for any bride who has had her wedding affected by the pandemic.

This beautiful shot of Dayna’s bouqet and wedding rings was captured by her uncle!

Our bride looks beautiful in a lace, white sundress and curled low ponytail.

Our Story: Our wedding was scheduled for March 20, 2020. We had been planning for over a year. With the big day fast approaching, the news of the Corona Virus was a major concern.
We had a few guests reach out to us stating they were uncomfortable traveling and we were totally understanding, but we were still going to continue on with the big day. Ian's best man, who is in the military and stationed outside of the state, was told he was not able to leave. We were a little heartbroken, but decided to have fun with it and ordered a 6ft cardboard cutout of him and we were going to Skype him into the ceremony and for his speech.
March 15th my parents and I were watching the Florida announcement stating the CDC recommended any event with greater than 50 people should be postponed. That was the final straw. I spoke with Ian and we both decided to postpone the large 100+ guest wedding ceremony and reception. We got busy with reaching out to all of our friends, family, and vendors. Fortunately, everyone was super understanding.
After much consideration, Ian and I still wanted March 20, 2020 to be our wedding day, so, we scheduled a courthouse ceremony. However, things were changing very quickly. The courthouse was closed, but we were unaware of that so we showed up and quickly realized there was no one there to marry us even though we had made an appointment just days before. The doors were open and the sheriff's department did have a few people there. So I went to the window and asked if there was anyone who could marry us. I asked if anyone was ordained. No one was ordained, but one of the ladies was a notary....that didn't help me. Luckily, someone overheard our conversation and called their reverend and he drove all the way to the courthouse to marry Ian and I. The ceremony was held outside the courthouse next to the parking lot, and under a shady tree. Definitely not what we planned, but it was still something special.
Each step of the way Ian and I stayed optimistic and made it work. In the end, even with all of the obstacles, we got married and rescheduled our large ceremony for next March as a 1-year vow renewal.
