Should I wear a wedding veil

How to choose a wedding veil

When wedding veil shopping, keep your gown and other accessories in mind. It would be best to bring your gown along to see how the color, length and detail look against your dress. Normally, the veil should extend just past the train of the dress.

Consider your hairstyle, venue and keep an open mind! There are plenty of lengths and styles to try. Bring inspiration pictures along if you have a look you’re trying to achieve!

Should I wear a veil?

This is a personal preference. Veils are viewed as extremely traditional, the act of revealing the bride's face as the blusher is lifted can seem a little dated to some. In my opinion, I think “why not?”. Everyone in attendance can wear a headpiece, headband, earrings, bracelets - but they will not be wearing a veil. Maybe it's my flair for the dramatics, but I am a firm believer in going big, or going home.

At least try one on somewhere in the process and see if you fall in love with the look! Plus, the image of a veil that you have in your mind, might be dated. There are all kinds of veils now. In our guide to veils you will see that you can have so many more options, veil inspiration and how to style your veil.

Veils with Blushers

If you’re not super up to date on bridal fashion trends, this is probably the veil you’re picturing in your head. The blusher is worn down the aisle and it is lifted when they meet their fiance at the altar.

I think they are incredibly romantic however you can totally do without the blusher if that is your preference!

Cathedral Length Veils

This is one of the most common veil lengths. If you’ve ever gone to a wedding, chances are the bride was wearing a cathedral length veil. They are unforgettable and beautifully bridal. If you are looking for a veil to match the length of your train, try a cathedral or royal length veil.

Our Bride, Sarah, wore a beautiful cathedral length veil to her Florida wedding! Check out Sarah’s wedding, here!

Royal Length Veils

Exactly as the name suggests, this veil is extremely glamorous and royal. We’re talking about Meghan Markle, Princess Diana and the whole royal treatment. If you’re looking for the most dramatic of veils, a royal length veil is the direction to go in. Often times, a royal length veil will extend past the train of your gown. Royal length is best to try on with your dress, to see if you like the effect that it gives.

Lace Veils

Lace trim, lace applique - you name it! If you want some striking detail on your veil, we highly recommend trying lace veils! You can match the lace on your gown to the veil or pair a clean dress with a lace wedding veil for some extra detail!

Custom Wedding Veils

Stylist Tip! If you plan on wearing a lace wedding dress, you have the option of ordering a custom wedding veil with matching lace appliqué!

Mantilla veils are typically made of Spanish lace and tulle with a scalloped trim. They are primarily popular with women in Spain or Latin America. Traditional mantilla veils are worn with a high comb called a peineta.

Clean Wedding Veils

When your gown is embellished with beading or has lace detail, look for a veil that lets the gown speak for herself. Clean veils are romantic and timeless. They are reliable and do the trick, especially if you’re intimidated by a more decorated veil.

Crystal and Peal Wedding Veils

If you’re wanting a little something extra, we recommend trying a veil that has crystal or pearl embellishments! Our Brides love the veils we carry with these details. They aren’t too busy and match pretty much any dress! One of our favorites is the Norwegian Woods Veil we carry in our Orlando Bridal Shop. The Norwegian Woods Veil is embellished with scattered pearls and crystals!

Short veils

Mini dresses, jumpsuits and elopements are becoming increasingly more popular. To finish off these particular bridal looks, one should look to a bird cage, angel-cut, elbow, waist or finger-tip length veil.

Wedding Veil Trends

Gracie here! I am completely biased and committed to wearing a veil with a bow on my wedding day. Bows are timeless and FUN! We’ve definitely seen brides go a little more “out there” with their wedding styles and we’re so happy the bow wedding veils are getting the spotlight they deserve!

Accessories and Veils

A lot of people think you can’t wear a crown or headpiece with a veil, but this is one of our favorite myths to bust! On your wedding day, your hair will likely have way more volume than usual. In fact, everything on your wedding day will be a little “exaggerated”. Pairing a veil and a headband/hairpiece is one of the best ways to accessorize. Plus, your veil will only be worn for the ceremony and pictures.
